Job Description:
The City of Parkersburg is accepting applications for a part-time/reserve police officer. Primary job duties are to enforce local, state and federal laws and ordinances, to patrol assigned areas and to do skilled police work in the investigation of alleged criminal offenses and juvenile cases. The selected candidate will be required to work cooperatively with other officers in the police department and throughout Butler County and be subordinate to the Police Chief and/or other full-time staff. He/she will be required to work positively with local businesses and schools by utilizing effective community policing techniques, possess leadership qualities related to the position, and help maintain the police department’s fleet. Preference will be given to those who have already been certified and have required training. For those not certified, a physical fitness test will be required in order to obtain certification.
Job Requirements:
To be eligible you must have graduated from high school or an equivalent, and be able to meet minimum standards for Iowa Law Enforcement officers as indicated by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. http://www.ileatraining.org/default.aspx/MenuItemID/239/MenuGroup/Home.htm
You must also be able to maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Iowa. You must not have had no OWI convictions within the last five years and no more than three convictions for moving violations within any 12 month period over the last five years. Also, all officers must be able to obtain an Iowa Professional Permit to carry weapons.
